Meet Trinika Tolbert: Woodyard Realty Corporation Scholarship Winner and Future Nurse

"I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and I’m the oldest of two siblings. Growing up here shaped who I am today,” Trinika said. Trinika’s journey has led her from the City University School of Liberal College Preparatory High School to becoming a recipient of the $2,500 Associate Degree Woodyard Realty Scholarship.

Balancing Family and Education

"One significant obstacle I had to overcome was balancing my responsibilities at home with my academic pursuits. As the oldest of two siblings, I often took on a caregiving role, helping my family with various tasks and ensuring my younger sibling’s well-being. This required a great deal of time management and dedication to maintain my academic performance while supporting my family. Overcoming this challenge taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of prioritizing my goals, all of which have brought me to this point in my journey toward becoming a nurse.”

pursuing Nursing

“Becoming a nurse has always been a dream of mine. I have a deep passion for helping others and making a positive impact on their lives. My goal is to provide compassionate care and support to patients during their most vulnerable times. I aspire to work in a healthcare setting where I can continuously learn and grow, both personally and professionally. By pursuing a career in nursing, I hope to contribute to the well-being of my community and make a difference in the lives of those in need.”

The Impact of the Woodyard Realty Scholarship

“Winning this scholarship means the world to me. It represents not only financial support but also recognition of my hard work, dedication, and passion for nursing. This scholarship will significantly ease the financial burden of my education, allowing me to focus more on my studies and less on financial concerns. It will enable me to access better resources, opportunities for clinical experience, and professional development. Moving forward, this scholarship will empower me to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse with greater confidence and determination, ultimately helping me make a meaningful impact in the healthcare field and in my community.”

FAVORITE PART OF LIVING IN MEMPHIS

“My favorite thing about living in Memphis and going to school here is the diverse community. Memphis has a rich cultural heritage and history, which is reflected in its music, food, and festivals. I love the sense of camaraderie and pride that the people of Memphis share, and the way the community comes together to support one another. Additionally, attending school here has allowed me to connect with inspiring educators and peers who share my passion for making a difference.”

Advice for Aspiring Nurses

“For anyone pursuing a career in nursing, my advice would be to stay resilient and committed to your goals. Nursing is a demanding yet incredibly rewarding field, requiring dedication, empathy, and continuous learning. Embrace every learning opportunity, whether in the classroom, during clinical rotations, or through real-life experiences. Build a strong support network with mentors, peers, and professionals who can guide and encourage you. Remember to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally, as self-care is crucial in this profession. Lastly, never give up!”

We’re thrilled about the opportunities that are opening up to Trinika through winning the Woodyard Realty Scholarship, and we can’t wait to see how the Memphis community benefits from her leadership.
