We're so excited to share that the Shainberg Scholarship is officially open for its second year, and applications are open now through June 1, 2026.
The Legacy Behind the Name
Herbert Shainberg was a Memphis businessman who owned a beloved department store on Main Street in Downtown Memphis. He was known for his generosity, his commitment to fairness and justice, and his genuine belief in the power of kindness. He left a mark on this city that his family is still honoring today.
His grandchildren are continuing that legacy by investing directly in Memphis students, and that kind of generational commitment to community is exactly the spirit Give901 was built around.
"Shainberg" means "Beautiful Mountain." Reaching your potential is a climb. It's hard. It takes grit. But no one should have to make that climb alone, and no one should have to turn back simply because they couldn't afford the gear. This scholarship is that guiding light on the way up.
The Shainberg Scholarship was created in partnership with the Shainberg Foundation and is exclusive to Choose901 Alumni students. It’s applicable to any postsecondary path, including four-year universities, community colleges, trade schools, certificate programs, or apprenticeships. Special consideration is given to students whose parents are domestic workers, because financial barriers hit some families harder than others.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications are submitted through the Choose901 Alumni Network App.
Log in, head to the Alumni Resources tab, and look for the 2026 Shainberg Scholarship. The application is right there in the app.
After you’ve submitted your application, submit your essay here. Your application will not be considered without the essay portion.
Never got an invite to the Alumni Network? Tap "Request to Join" on the login screen and fill out the short form with your partner school and graduation year. You'll be connected to the Choose901 Alumni team from there.
The deadline is June 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Don't wait.
