Make an impact with volunteer opportunities this summer

Looking for ways to make a difference this summer? Give901 has got you covered! We’ve got three organizations with unique volunteer opportunities who are looking for your enthusiastic involvement now. You can do something you’re passionate about: from sports and education to urban gardening, we’ve got all the details on how you can make the most effective change this summer.

1. Memphis Athletic Ministries: Summer Academy and Sports Camps

This summer, you can be part of the MAM Summer Academy and Sports Camps. The camps serve over 350 rising third through eighth graders and offer activities in academic enrichment, recreation, Bible studies, and field trips. Volunteer shifts are weekly or bi-weekly, weekdays from June 3 through July 12, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

If you like sports, MAM's Summer Sports Camps feature a different sport each week, including basketball, volleyball, flag football, and soccer. You’ll be helping with drills, games, and mentoring young athletes. This opportunity also runs from June 3 to July 12, weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

To learn more or sign up, visit mamsports.org/volunteer or email volunteer@mamsports.org.

2. New Hope Christian Academy: Urban Farm

At New Hope Christian Academy, volunteers are needed to help in the Urban Farm where you can work with nature while supporting an innovative gardening program. You’ll be assisting with gardening duties like harvesting berries, preparing for the veggie stand, spot watering, and weeding. This opportunity is open to high school students and adults, available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm.

This hands-on experience not only helps sustain the garden but also provides educational opportunities for students to learn about healthy, sustainable living. If you’re short on time but still want to make an impact, you can support the urban farm by visiting the “pay what you can” farm stand every Friday from 11:00-12:00 am. All proceeds go right back into the farm.

To learn more, email David Vaughan at dvaughan@newhopememphis.org.

3. Memphis Teacher Residency: 2024 Memphis Literacy Conference

If you are interested in improving literacy in Memphis, this opportunity is for you. MTR is looking for volunteers for their Memphis Literacy Conference on Saturday, September 21. Shifts run from 8:00 am to 11:15 am and 11:15 am to 2:45 pm. You’ll get a free meal, access to conference sessions, and a free T-shirt. You can meet and interact with over 300 professionals seeking to improve literacy skills in Memphis.

To sign up to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer form by MTR or contact them for more information.

The Importance of Volunteering

At Give901, we believe in giving an hour of pay and an hour of time each month to create a greater Memphis. Join us this summer and give an hour of your time to one of these inspiring initiatives. Let’s make a difference together!
