Volunteer for the next generation of leaders

What is the Choose901 Alumni Program?

The Choose901 Alumni Program is a sister campaign of Give901, both operating under the City Leadership umbrella. Give901 was born from a desire to provide Memphians with a direct path to invest in nonprofits that need support, uplifting organizations with excellent teachers, innovative schools, and empowering mentors in underrepresented communities.

The Alumni Program currently supports 2,800 graduates (or soon-to-be graduates) from underserved communities in our six partner schools, the same schools that Give901 supports. While Give901 focuses on high school students and earlier, Choose901 Alumni prioritizes post graduation plans, connecting graduates to Memphis career networks through professional development.

We know we will have 5,000 alumni by the year 2030. Our dream is to see 5,000 Give901 members partnered together with these young adults to share pathways to leadership across the city.

What Does Choose901 Alumni Do?

The goal is to Champion and Equip the alumni with inspiration, encouragement, and opportunities. The Alumni team reaches out to every graduate twice per month to support them in various ways. Common support types are job placement, career development, mentorship, and more. They empower the graduates and cultivate community through events where alumni can network and make professional contacts.

How Can You Volunteer?

At Give901, we dream of a movement of volunteers across the city giving an hour of time each month to better the city of Memphis. Many community members know about traditional volunteer opportunities, but we have opportunities that tie directly into your expertise and business.

Here are some ideas:

  • Mentorship: Provide guidance in resume building, job applications, interview preparation, career mapping, and financial planning.

  • Panel Discussions: Participate as panelists in monthly sector-specific events, sharing industry insights and experiences with alumni.

  • Professional Development Workshops: Host a workshop for alumni covering topics like financial literacy and workplace navigation.

  • Workplace Tours: Host tours of local businesses to expose alumni to various career opportunities in Memphis.

  • Scholarships and Apprenticeships: Help secure and manage scholarships for students, and develop apprenticeship programs for those entering trades directly after high school.

Get Involved

There are countless ways you can assist the exceptional young adults in our city, and these are just a few ideas. You can volunteer as an individual or recruit your entire office. If you’re interested in setting up any of these opportunities or have something else to offer, please contact us. We’d love to talk more about how you can get involved. By volunteering, you can play a crucial role in empowering the next generation of leaders, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to succeed and contribute to the city's growth. Join us in championing and equipping our alumni, and together, let's build a growing, improving, more loving Memphis.
