why steve woodyard created a scholarship for Memphis renters

“I think it's going back to getting the first child in college and then it becomes a regular thing for the family. You know, mom went to college, dad went to college, so children are going to college. We have to break that cycle somewhere along the way where these kids don't have the opportunity. They've got the intelligence, they've got the drive, They just don't have the money to get to college, and it just can make that career choice just a little bit stronger and in the long term, improving the city of Memphis.” - Steve Woodyard, Woodyard Realty Corporation.

a scholarship for renters

As the president of Woodyard Realty Corporation, the leading multifamily brokerage in the Memphis area since 1984, Steve Woodyard wanted to improve Memphis through education by focusing on the company’s specialty: apartments.

“Well, you know, apartments, number one, are just a great way for affordable housing. They offer a lot of amenities to our area residents, swimming pools, tennis courts, workout facilities that most homes don't have, and it's an affordable way for people to enter a community,” Woodyard says.

With that in mind, he partnered with Give901 and cityCURRENT to create the Woodyard Realty Scholarship, awarding 3 scholarships to renters in Memphis. Both home and apartment renters qualify and are encouraged to apply.

“Everything that we do is just to drive to try to make Memphis a little bit better,” Woodyard says.
