Meet Katherine Pointer: Woodyard Realty Corporation Scholarship Winner and Aspiring Healthcare Professional
Katherine Pointer won the $5,000 Bachelor Degree Woodyard Realty Scholarship in 2024! As a graduate of Southwind High School, Katherine has plans to enter the healthcare field to give back to Memphis. "I was born and raised in Memphis," Katherine shared. "Throughout my entire life, the community has always been the main aspect of Memphis that I love and cherish."
Dreams of Success and Giving Back
"My overall hope and dream for my life is to be successful in different ways. I hope to be financially stable and responsible, have a fulfilling career in the field of medicine/healthcare, be more giving to others in my life, and overall just dream about creating a future for myself that I can be proud of," she explained. Her goals extend beyond personal success—she dreams of making a difference in the lives of others through her work in healthcare. "I hope to have time to do new things, travel to different places around the world, and try new foods, and maybe build a few friendships along the way."
Overcoming Life’s Challenges
"As a new young adult in this world, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been a challenge trying to have a handle on navigating it all and remaining positive," she shared. The past few years have brought significant losses, including the passing of her grandfather in 2021, the loss of her first vehicle in an accident in 2023, and the recent loss of her grandmother. "Although these obstacles have been unfortunate things that I’ve struggled coping with in my life, I feel that these obstacles made me stronger and able to handle any other challenge that I may encounter within my life," Katherine said.
A Vision for Healthcare
Katherine’s goals in the medical field is to become either a pediatrician or medical dosimetrist. "I hope that my future career path will be able to help heal my community. I want to benefit them by doing everything I possibly can to provide them with an amazing healthcare experience," she explained. Her goal is to "support them back into good health and wellness, and give them a brand-new lease on life."

"Winning this scholarship means so much to me. Words cannot fully explain how truly grateful I am to even be considered for this wonderful opportunity given to me," she expressed. "It has given me even more motivation and confidence in my ability to accomplish my goals and further excel in my personal, professional, and academic aspirations," Katherine said. With this scholarship, she is on the path to becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree—a milestone that will open doors to her future career in healthcare.
